Working Groups are where most of the Network’s work actually happens. Each one sets its own focus, membership, and way of working, and new groups can form of their own accord when there’s energy for something new. Every Member Organization commits to taking part in at least one. While each group decides who can join, all of the Network’s existing Working Groups are currently open to anyone interested—whether or not your institution has an OSPO or any plans to start one.
Discovery: mapping the open source landscape across UC and finding the research groups producing open source. This is the home of the UC Open Repository Browser (ORB) and the UC-wide survey of open source projects.
Education: building and sharing open source curriculum, training, and contributor onboarding across campuses, much of it through the UC Carpentries partnership.
Sustainability: keeping UC open source projects—and the people behind them—healthy for the long term, from best practices to project-health tooling.
Licensing: a subgroup of Sustainability focused on open source licensing and compliance.
Joining a Working Group¶
You can join a Working Group by joining its channel in the Network Slack—pick a group whose work is closest to yours—or one that doing work you want to know more about!—and introduce yourself.
