The Discovery Working Group maps the open source landscape across the University of California and finds the research groups producing open source software throughout the system. This work makes the Network an interface between the UC research enterprise and the open source world, informing UC open source strategy and policy.
Chair: Emily Lovell
Membership: Members are asked to attend at least half of the group’s meetings over the course of the year, and to follow the group’s code of conduct and governance procedures.
What this group does¶
Discovery’s work spans several projects:
Open Repository Browser (ORB): a toolkit for discovering, exploring, and spotlighting UC open source projects, along with the community growing around it.
Project showcase: a curated view of UC open source projects that are open to engagement with contributors and sponsors.
A UC-wide survey of open source projects, practices, and perceptions, which feeds the annual “State of UC Open Source.”
For more on the group’s aims and activities, see the Discovery guiding theme.
